Fake ORS: How to Spot the Sugary Drinks FSSAI Just Banned
Real ORS follows the WHO low-osmolarity formula: ~245 mOsm/L, sodium and glucose in near-equal balance.
Many ready-to-drink 'ORS' beverages are sugary fruit/glucose drinks that can make diarrhoea worse.
FSSAI's 14-15 October 2025 orders bar the word ORS on any product not matching the WHO formula.
Buy plain WHO-ORS sachets, dissolve the whole packet in the stated volume of water, and never add extra sugar.
For a child with diarrhoea, pair ORS with zinc for 14 days and watch for danger signs.
