How India Elects Its President: The 2027 Vote Math

The President is chosen by an electoral college of elected MPs and MLAs — not the public, not nominated members.
Every voter's ballot carries a weight: MLA votes are scaled by 1971 population, MP votes balance the states.
It is a secret ballot with ranked preferences, so a whip cannot bind voters the way it can in a Rajya Sabha poll.
Winning needs more than the most votes — a candidate must cross a fixed quota of 50% of the value plus one.
