India's E-Passport Is Now Default: What Changes for You

Every new Indian passport is now a chip-embedded e-passport at no extra cost.
Look for the small gold chip symbol below the word 'Passport' on the front cover.
Fees are unchanged: ₹1,500 (36 pages), ₹2,000 (60 pages), Tatkal adds ₹2,000.
Your old non-chip passport stays valid until its expiry — switching is not mandatory.
The RFID chip speeds up e-gate clearance and makes tampering far harder.
