ITR Filing 2026: Your Last Date and the Regime That Saves More
Salaried filers: last date is 31 July 2026; non-audit ITR-3/ITR-4 now get till 31 August 2026.
New regime is the default; income up to ₹12.75 lakh can be tax-free for the salaried.
Old regime usually wins only if your deductions cross roughly ₹3.5-4 lakh.
File after the due date and you lose the old regime, plus 80C, HRA and home-loan claims.
Late penalty is up to ₹5,000 (₹1,000 if income is below ₹5 lakh) under Section 234F.
