Mysterious 50-Metre Tunnel Found Near Jerusalem's Judah Palace

A 50-metre rock-hewn tunnel was found near Ramat Rachel, beside Judah's only known royal palace.

Israel Antiquities Authority announced the find on 14 May 2026 during a salvage dig.

No pottery, coins or inscriptions were inside — so archaeologists cannot date it at all.

Leading theory: it was cut to mine chalk for building stone or lime, not for water.

Ramat Rachel held 600+ royal seal stamps, including 'lmlk' marks tied to King Hezekiah.
