Tyre Sidewall Decoded: Read the Numbers That Matter
A code like 195/55 R16 means width 195mm, 55% sidewall ratio, 16-inch rim — match it exactly when replacing.
The 4-digit DOT code is week + year: 2524 means made in week 25 of 2024. Reject 'new' tyres over a year old.
Load index and speed rating are paired numbers/letters — never fit a lower rating than your manufacturer specifies.
When the tread wears down to the TWI bars at 1.6mm, the tyre is legally and dangerously finished.
Use the PSI on your car's door-jamb sticker, not the higher 'max pressure' printed on the tyre.
