Water TDS Decoded: When You Actually Need an RO Purifier

TDS measures dissolved minerals and salts in ppm — it is not a direct test for germs or pesticides
BIS calls TDS up to 500 ppm acceptable; below ~150 ppm water can taste flat and lack minerals
Pick a purifier by your actual water source and TDS, not by marketing — UV/UF often beats RO
RO wastes 2-4 litres for every clean litre and strips calcium and magnesium
If you must use RO on low-TDS water, switch on the mineral cartridge or TDS controller
