CNAP Is Here: India's Built-In Caller ID, Explained
CNAP displays a network-verified caller name pulled from your operator's KYC records, not a crowdsourced app.
Approved by TRAI in October 2025, it is reaching most Indian phones by around March–April 2026.
It works first on 4G and 5G VoLTE smartphones; basic feature phones and older 2G/3G networks are left out for now.
You can hide your own name from CNAP by activating the CLIR privacy setting through your operator.
CNAP shows the name on the SIM's paperwork — it can be a business, a relative or an outdated entry, so treat it as a strong hint, not proof.
