OLED Phone Headaches: The PWM Flicker Problem and Fixes
OLED screens dim by flickering pixels on and off; slow flicker (low PWM) triggers headaches in sensitive eyes.
Look for high-frequency PWM of 1920Hz or more, ideally 3840Hz+, or true DC dimming.
Test any phone in 30 seconds with a slow-motion video at low brightness, before you buy.
Raising brightness, turning on DC/anti-flicker mode, and avoiding pitch-dark rooms all reduce strain.
TÜV Rheinland flicker-free certification is a useful shortlist filter, not a guarantee.
