Pay With UPI Abroad: Where It Works and How to Set It Up
UPI now works in roughly eight countries, including UAE, Singapore, France, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Mauritius and Qatar.
You must switch on 'UPI International' inside your app before you fly — it won't auto-activate abroad.
Payments are QR-only at partner merchants; you can't yet UPI-pay just anywhere overseas.
Watch the catch: most banks add a forex markup, so UPI abroad isn't always cheaper than a card.
Money still debits your Indian rupee account instantly, so there's nothing to load or top up.
