Ashta Koot Milan (Eight-fold compatibility test) is the ancient Vedic system for evaluating marriage compatibility by comparing the birth charts (Kundalis) of both partners. The Moon's position in both charts is used to score eight different life-dimensions called Koots — each carrying a specific number of points.
A maximum of 36 Gunas (points) can be matched. Traditionally, a score of 18 or above is considered acceptable for marriage. Our report goes beyond the raw score — it explains what each Koot means for your relationship, flags any Doshas (like Mangalik or Nadi Dosha) and recommends personalised remedies.
| Score (out of 36) | Compatibility Level | Verdict |
|---|---|---|
| 28 – 36 | Excellent | Highly compatible — a very auspicious match |
| 24 – 27 | Very Good | Very good compatibility — strongly recommended |
| 18 – 24 | Good | Good compatibility — generally acceptable for marriage |
| 12 – 18 | Average | Average — remedies recommended for better harmony |
| Below 12 | Challenging | Needs careful Dosha analysis and strong remedies |
The Ashta Koot system evaluates eight dimensions of compatibility between two people. Varna (1 point) measures spiritual and social compatibility. Vashya (2 points) assesses the natural attraction and who influences whom in the relationship. Tara (3 points) evaluates the compatibility of the birth stars and indicates health and wellbeing. Yoni (4 points) measures physical and intimate compatibility based on animal symbols assigned to Nakshatras. Graha Maitri (5 points) — also called Rasyadhipati — assesses the mental compatibility and friendship between partners based on their Moon sign lords. Gana (6 points) compares temperamental compatibility: Deva (divine), Manushya (human), and Rakshasa (demon) categories. Bhakoot (7 points) measures the emotional, financial, and overall relationship compatibility using the Moon signs' numerical relationship. Nadi (8 points) — the highest weighted Koot — assesses physiological and genetic compatibility, and is considered critical for healthy offspring.
Mangalik Dosha (Kuja Dosha) occurs when Mars is placed in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th house of the birth chart. Mars's fiery, aggressive energy in these houses can create tension, conflict, or dominance struggles in a marital relationship. However, many natural cancellation conditions exist: if both partners are Mangalik, the Dosha cancels out. Certain Nakshatra placements, benefic planetary aspects, and specific chart configurations also nullify the Dosha. Our report provides a thorough Mangalik analysis for both partners, identifies all applicable cancellation conditions, and recommends the most appropriate remedies if the Dosha is active.
Our Kundali Milan report goes far beyond the raw Guna score. It provides a detailed breakdown of all 8 Koots with scores and explanations; a Mangalik check for both partners with cancellation analysis; a Nadi Dosha assessment (the most critical for health and progeny); a Bhakoot Dosha check; a personalised interpretation of the combined score in the context of both charts; and specific, actionable remedies for any identified Doshas. The report is delivered as a professionally formatted PDF to your email within minutes of payment.

Ashta Koot Milan is the Vedic 8-fold compatibility test that scores 8 life dimensions (Koots) by comparing both partners' Moon Nakshatras. The 8 Koots are Varna (1 pt), Vashya (2 pts), Tara (3 pts), Yoni (4 pts), Graha Maitri (5 pts), Gana (6 pts), Bhakoot (7 pts) and Nadi (8 pts) — totalling 36 points maximum. Each Koot represents a different dimension of marital compatibility from spiritual to physical to health and progeny.
Scores are interpreted as: 28+ is excellent (highly auspicious); 24–27 is very good (strongly recommended); 18–24 is good (acceptable for marriage); 12–18 is average (remedies suggested); below 12 is challenging (thorough Dosha analysis required). Note that the quality of specific Koots — particularly Nadi and Bhakoot — matters more than the raw total, and our report addresses this nuance.
Yes — a low score is not a prohibition. Vedic tradition offers remedies including specific prayers, gemstones, fasting days, and Dosha Parihara rituals. Natural Dosha cancellation conditions may also apply. Many couples with average scores lead happy marriages with awareness and effort. Our report provides personalised remedies for any identified Doshas and explains all applicable exceptions.
Mangalik Dosha (Kuja Dosha) occurs when Mars is placed in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house of the birth chart. Mars's aggressive energy in these houses is believed to cause friction, dominance conflicts, or health challenges in marriage. If both partners are Mangalik, the Dosha cancels out. Our report checks both charts, identifies all cancellation conditions, assesses severity, and recommends appropriate remedies including specific prayers, gemstones (red coral), and Mangal Shanti rituals.

Birth time is optional. The Ashta Koot system is based on the Moon's Nakshatra, which changes every ~24–27 hours, so the date alone often provides sufficient accuracy. When times are unknown, we compute the Moon's Nakshatra from the date and place. If the Moon is transitioning between Nakshatras on the birth date, we analyse both possibilities and present both sets of results in the report.
Our report is based on classical Vedic Jyotish rules. Accuracy improves significantly when the time of birth is provided for both partners, as it helps compute the precise Nakshatra Pada. The report is intended for guidance and spiritual insight — we recommend discussing results with a qualified astrologer for major decisions.
A low score does not mean the relationship is doomed. Our report includes personalised remedies — such as specific prayers, gemstones, fasting days and Dosha Parihara rituals — that Vedic tradition prescribes to mitigate compatibility challenges. Many couples with average scores lead happy marriages with awareness and effort.
