Dhurandhar: The Revenge Heads to OTT After Rs 1,850 Crore Theatrical Run

After one of the biggest theatrical runs in recent Hindi cinema, Aditya Dhar's spy action-thriller Dhurandhar: The Revenge has begun its move to streaming. The film, which released in cinemas worldwide on 19 March 2026, has now entered its over-the-top (OTT) phase, with an extended international cut already live on Netflix and an India premiere on JioHotstar lined up for the coming days.

The sequel to the 2025 hit Dhurandhar completes a two-part story written and directed by Dhar. It stars Ranveer Singh alongside Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan and Sara Arjun, with several cast members reprising roles from the first film. The release timed itself to the Gudi Padwa, Ugadi and Eid festival window, and went on to become one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time.

A staggered, two-platform streaming rollout

The film's digital release has been split between two platforms across two markets. Netflix, which holds the international streaming rights, premiered the title for audiences outside India on 15 May 2026 under the extended name Dhurandhar: The Revenge (Raw and Undekha). According to reports, this version runs roughly three minutes longer than the theatrical cut, restoring uncensored dialogue and additional footage that did not make the certified release.

For Indian viewers, the streaming rights sit with JioHotstar, which acquired the title in a deal reported to be worth around Rs 150 crore. The India premiere of the uncut version is slated for 5 June 2026, per Wikipedia's tracking of the film. The staggered approach — an international drop followed by a domestic one weeks later — has become increasingly common for big-ticket Indian releases as studios try to wring maximum value from theatrical windows before handing films to streamers.

The gap between the two dates fuelled plenty of online chatter, with Indian fans initially unsure when their version would land after the Netflix announcement arrived first. The 'Raw and Undekha' branding, meanwhile, signals a clear pitch to viewers: a longer, less-trimmed edit than the one cleared for theatres, where the film carried an adults-only certificate.

The numbers behind the theatrical run

Dhurandhar: The Revenge was a commercial juggernaut in cinemas. Made on a budget reported at roughly Rs 250–255 crore combined with its predecessor, the film grossed about Rs 1,851 crore worldwide over a run that stretched beyond 50 days. Of that total, India accounted for roughly Rs 1,361 crore, with overseas markets contributing close to Rs 476 crore.

The film crossed Rs 1,000 crore globally within its first week and reached about Rs 1,435 crore by the end of its second weekend, making it the fastest Indian film to cross the Rs 1,500 crore mark. It ended its run as the highest-grossing Hindi-language film domestically and the second-highest-grossing Indian film of all time. It also became the highest-grossing A-rated Indian film ever — a notable feat for a title carrying an adults-only certificate, which typically limits a film's audience.

Along the way, the film set a string of records. It earned about Rs 75 crore from paid previews, overtaking the previous benchmark held by Stree 2, and posted the highest opening day for a Bollywood film. Overseas, it became the first Indian film to cross USD 25 million in North America and emerged as the highest-grossing Indian release in Germany, the UK, Australia and New Zealand. The theatrical run also logged around four crore admissions.

Why the OTT moment matters

For Ranveer Singh, the Dhurandhar duology marked a significant commercial high, and the streaming release now opens the film to the far larger home audience that did not catch it in cinemas. The 'Raw and Undekha' positioning is also a calculated draw: viewers who saw the theatrical cut may revisit it for the restored material, while newcomers get a fuller version of Dhar's spy saga.

The split between Netflix and JioHotstar underlines how distribution rights for major Indian films are increasingly carved up by territory, with international and domestic deals negotiated separately and often with different platforms. For audiences in India, the wait is nearly over — the JioHotstar premiere is expected within days, bringing the curtain down on a release cycle that began in cinemas in March and now lands in living rooms across the country.

As always with announced OTT dates, viewers are advised to check their streaming platform for the confirmed India release, as schedules for high-profile titles can shift close to launch.
